Are restaurants in PEI well aware of Celiac disease and do they offer many Gluten free options with their meals?
Hello Len,
Thank you for your question to Ask an Islander.
I am pleased to answer your question because I am a bit of a foodie and I love my restaurants around the Island. There are many wonderful spots. Many of my celiac family and friends love visiting the Island for the restaurant experiences! They are able to dine without concern. Just make sure to let your server know when ordering.
In Charlottetown, Water Prince Corner Shop offers a gluten free menu and dessert. Shaddy's is excellent, the owner has celiac so understands the requirements. The Chip Shack is also gluten free. John Brown on Victoria Row, their entire menu can be made gluten free!
In New Glasgow, the PEI Preserve Company have several gluten free options.
Darnley check out Ship to Shore.
In Kensington check out Go Fish, Family & Friends and Island Stone Pub.
In Stratford, Phinley's is very popular. Great family diner.
Ol' Boys Eatery is an amazing food truck and serve gluten free options. Quickly becoming the go to food truck!
Enjoy,
Erin Davis
