Hi Helena!
Thanks for reaching out on Ask An Islander- the Cavendish area is a great, centrally located place on the island to stay and be able to have access to central/eastern/western PEI.
While you’re in Cavendish, definitely check out
Avonlea Village for coffee/breakfast from Samuels, lunch and dinner at one of the few restaurants in this area (
Lone Oak and
La Rose are two of my favourites).
Definitely check out
Cavendish Beach and the North Shore parkway between Cavendish and Rustico - incredible views to be had here. In Rustico,
Blue Mussel Cafe is a must-visit.
On the west side of Cavendish, a visit to the
North Shore Canteen in French River (and the view in French River) is needed. Easily my favourite restaurant on PEI.
For thrifting, there are numerous spots in Charlottetown worth checking out - the biggest (and my favourite)
Farmers Market is also located in Charlottetown and they are open on Wednesdays and Saturdays (located next to the UPEI campus).
First timers to PEI should definitely make an effort to see
Anne of Green Gables at Homburg Theatre - basically a rite of passage!
If you’re on the foodie path, a great thing to make time for would be to book a night at Chef Michael Smith’s
Fireworks Feast in Bay Fortune, PEI. Depending on the evening it can be difficult to get a spot, but that feast is worth every penny! It’s an other-worldly experience.
Aside from all of that, I highly recommend driving the
coasts (north and south) and finding the roads that keep you closest to the water - you’ll find all sorts of things to see and do that way!
Thanks,
