Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Ask ann Islander. Clam digging is best done at low tide wherever you try. You should be able to find them anywhere on the flats at low tide in Victoria. You'll need to look for the telltale dimples in the sand, dig around the hole and you have to be gentle and quick. It is amazing how fast they can move. Here is a great tide chart for Victoria by the Sea!

It's always a good idea to know the rules and regulations around harvesting shellfish in PEI. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has great information on its website under the "What do I need to know before harvesting shellfish' page.

For a sure thing, check out By-the Sea Kayaking and sign up for their I Dig Therefore I Clam excursion. They can get you to the real hot spots on the offshore sandbars!

Happy clamming!
