I was in PEI last summer and saw lobster trap chairs everywhere and loved them. I will be returning to the Island in June and hoping to buy one for my home. Do you know who makes them?

Hi Ryan,

Thank you for reaching out to Ask an Islander, I am so glad to hear that you're coming back for a visit. You have me stumped on this one. I know I have seen them too, there was a man up in Rollo Bay, right on Route 2 who would sell them from the end of his driveway but I don't think he does it anymore.

I've asked everyone I can think of, and they all recall seeing them somewhere but no specifics! My best suggestion is the next time that you see one, ask the person or business where they got them.

One of my colleagues suggested picking up a whole lobster trap. Sometimes you will see people selling them at the end of their driveways. Fishermen don't use the round-ended traps very much anymore and you may find one at a harbour as well. If you see a pile of them, ask a fisherman if he would part with one and then  DIY one for yourself! My colleague said she's been on the hunt for one too, and was told that you just tip the trap on its end, cut out the part you don't need, and add a board for the seat. Sounds easy enough! :)

I am going to keep on hunting for a better answer and will reach out to you if I find one.

See you soon!
