If I choose to take the ferry to PEI (taking my car), do I pay both ways on the boat or only when I come back? do I have to reserve a spot for my car in advance? Thank you! 😊

Hello Bianca,

Thank you for your message to Ask an Islander. To answer your question, you only pay to leave Prince Edward Island, if you choose to leave! The only time you would pay to come to the Island is if you reserve space on the ferry to come here or leave. If you just show up before the ferry leaves (stand-by), it is reservations and then first come first on.

A reservation is recommended for the 75-minute car ferry crossing from Wood Islands to Nova Scotia. Visit ferries.ca for details on schedule, fares, amenities and to book online.

Happy vacation!
