If I travel from PEI to Nova Scotia on the ferry by car, do I need to pay the ferry fee and the toll as well?

Hello Ian,
Thank you for reaching out to Ask an Islander. There is a way to travel to PEI from Nova Scotia for free and then you just have to pay the toll on the bridge when you leave.
You can travel from Nova Scotia to, Prince Edward Island for free on standby. However, to guarantee your space, you must pre-book and pay the applicable fare. Note that whether booking one-way or round-trip travel, the fare is the same. If you book one way, you can convert your booking to a round-trip later by calling us. To depart PEI via the Confederation Bridge, you will be responsible for paying the bridge toll.
So if you're not concerned about catching a certain ferry to come across, this would be the way to do it.
Regards,
Valerie
