Is it doable to drive from Charlottetown through the central part of PEI looping back to Charlottetown in one day? What would be the recommended stops and most scenic route?
Hi Wanda!
Touring Central PEI in a day is definitely doable!
Starting in Charlottetown, I would head to Dalvay-by-the-Sea National Historic Site. Do stop in to view the stunning interior! Keep in mind when visiting, although it is within a national park, Dalvay is privately leased and operates as a luxury waterfront resort and restaurant in summer when visitors can dine and stay overnight amid impressive decor.
Scenic viewpoints along route #6 are worth stopping for, as is a visit to one of the sandy beaches.
Next head to Brackley Beach and visit The Dunes Gallery, Gardens & Café for beautiful pottery and local art.
A bit off the main route, the Prince Edward Island Preserve Co. in New Glasgow is a popular spot for potato pie and raspberry cream cheese pie! Then venture to North Rustico - walk the boardwalk, and meander through the shops in this lovely seaside village.
On to Cavendish - home to Anne of Green Gables, Green Gables Heritage Place. Step back in time with a tour of the historic site. Walk down Lover’s Lane and the Haunted Wood, if you dare!
If you have flown into Charlottetown, you might want your next stop to be Borden-Carleton for a view of the Confederation Bridge. Then, traveling the Trans Canada highway, make a stop in Victoria-by-the-Sea for chocolates at Island Chocolates, maybe a lobster roll and a sunset walk on the beach before you head back to Charlottetown for a well deserved rest at the end of a delightful day.
Of note: Central PEI has a useful webpage with more ideas for visiting the area. The page is: centralcoastalpei.com.
Have fun!
