If I backpack the Confederation Trail are there places to tent?

Hello from Prince Edward Island,
Our Confederation Trail Guide is a great planning resource for your biking adventure. Download it from the bottom of this page - tourismpei.com/what-to-do/outdoor-activities/confederation-trail/confederation-trail-basics.
To answer your question, tenting is available at campgrounds identified in the trail guide along with other operators for each section. Most campgrounds are not located directly on the trail; some road travel may be required. Please check with service providers about distance and any concerns about getting to your destination safely.
Here is a list of the campgrounds located closest to the trail from west to east:
- Near Tignish: Waterford Cottages & Campground
- Wellington: Camping Terre Rouge
- Borden-Carleton KOA (in case you are travelling via the Confederation Bridge)
- Near Summerside: Either Linkletter Provincial Park or Crystal Beach Campground are located within a few kilometers of the trail along reasonably quiet roads.
- Brackley: CNG Country Cabins & Campground
- Tracadie: Confederation Trailside Tourist Grounds
- St. Peters Park
- Red Point Provincial Park & Campground
Find a full list of licensed campgrounds by clicking ‘Camping’ at tourismpei.com/where-to-stay.
There isn't any free camping in PEI. I am sure people have pitched their tents here and there near the Confederation Trial over the years but I have to advise that this would be at your own risk. PEI is such a small place with so many rural areas it would be hard to know what is private property and whether or not you would be trespassing.
For your information, the Island Walk is a new 700 kilometre journey that circumnavigates Prince Edward Island. The route incorporates the Confederation Trail and entirely new routes along the ocean and through quiet secondary roads. You may wish to join the Island Walk Facebook to see what others are chatting about.
Enjoy your ride.

Asked: I will be visiting Souris in early July 2024. I would love to take in a traditional lobster boil ( if that’s the correct wording , with the potatoes and corn and sea food ). Is there a local area known for offering this?
