My wife and I are considering relocating to Prince Edward Island, though we'd obviously like to see the place a bit before we decide. What would you recommend people see to get an idea of what life is like there for a resident, rather than a tourist?

Hi Phillip,
How exciting to hear that you are thinking about moving to PEI! The Prince Edward Island government website has a lot of information about 'moving to PEI'. That link will help you with all the technical questions.
Now for what to see and do while you're here checking things out! Without knowing how long you have to visit. I would suggest that you stay 2 or 3 days in each region. The Island is divided up into three coastal regions, Points East Coastal Drive which takes in most of Kings County. Central Coastal Drive which is most of Queens County and then North Cape Coastal Drive which is mostly Prince County. A few days in each region will give you a feel for where you would like to end up.
The central region or Queens county is in the center of the Island and is where our Capital city of Charlottetown is, the next largest city is Summerside which is just on the border of Queens and Prince county.
June until the end of September is typically 'tourist season' where more seasonal businesses are open and there are more things to see and do. What if you came in September, during the shoulder season when there is still a lot to see and do, but things have slowed down a bit and the weather is starting to change. The days are still lovely and the evenings are getting cooler.
Take in some events, and chat with the locals. We are a friendly bunch!
I hope this helps!
