Which shore of the island is best for whale watching? And is there a best season for whale watching?

Whales certainly can be seen off the coast of Prince Edward Island, but whales follow the fish, water temperatures and their own directions, so seeing them is an unique experience.
Seeing whales is more likely in the summer and fall.
The best way to have a chance to see whales in PEI is on an excursion or charter. Usually, you need to be out in deep water to see them. Seeing a whale, while on shore looking out to the water is as close to a lottery win, as you may get.
PEI is home to the Minke whale, the Pilot whale, and the Atlantic white-sided dolphin. There have been a few sighting of the Right whale and Humpback also. They are rare to see, but the best chance is out on the water in a boat. These whales don't tend to jump and put on a show for the boats, they do not tend to breach in the dramatic fashion you may have seen in pictures, but they are lovely to see.
Occasionally, we get an adventurous beluga whale making an appearance in PEI rivers and harbours. This is not normal, but when it happens, they tend to love the attention of the crowds excited to take pictures.
Most of the tours featuring whale sightings are along the North Shore. Many of the deep-sea fishing tours are great to take, if there are whales out when you are fishing, the captain will point them out.
