For Erin Davis: What is Prince Edward Island's oldest continously-operating diner or road-house. If Erin cannot answer, no cookies for you, sorry!
Hello Kilo!
You better start baking me cookies!!
I read your great question and instantly thought of Penzie's Bistro. The restaurant opened in 1860, the family settlement was established in 1793 and four generations later, it is still in the family. It is not so much a road house, but a dining experience. It is seasonal.
Then I thought about a few other places, but settled on the Canton as the oldest stand alone restaurant. Before it was the Canton, it was known as the Lotus Cafe. George Lee and his cousin Ken Wong purchased it in 1969, renovated it and continued running it as a restaurant. It was sold in 2015, but still serves a Chinese-Canadian menu.
I know of several seasonal restaurants which have been around for decades, but they all have had a period of closure due to selling, going out of business, moving buildings, seasonal and such. I was looking at Victoria by the Sea as many of their buildings are in the 1800s of age, but all have been used for multiple purposes.
So, long answer to get here, I am thinking the Blue Goose. Opened early 1950s, continuously stayed open since then. They also make a mean breakfast and cinnamon rolls.
If I am wrong, I accept it and owe you a Blue Goose cinnamon roll.
