We are visiting next week and we noticed it is “Gold Cup Parade Day”. What is this?

Hi Leanne,

I am sorry for the late reply! We were experiencing some awful technical difficulties.

The Gold Cup and Saucer Parade is a long time tradition here on PEI which takes place during Old Home Week which goes as far back as 1888!

The Gold Cup Parade is known as the largest parade (pre-covid) east of Montreal with upwards of 60 000 in attendance some years!

Old Home Week and Gold Cup and Saucer go hand in hand. Old Home Week, an Agricultural Fair and the Gold Cup and Saucer is considered one of the most celebrated harness racing events in Eastern Canada.

Islanders take Parade Day as our August holiday instead of the earlier civic holiday the rest of Canada takes.

I hope this answers your question, take care.

Valerie
