We will be visiting PEI from August 23-30th. Please share your favourite place to fish!
Hello Ashley,
Thank you for your question to Ask an Islander.
Prince Edward Island has lots of fishing opportunities. It is very difficult to just name one prized spot to fish. The Morell River is definitely one of the favorite locations for freshwater fishing. You will find schools of brook trout there as well as Atlantic Salmon during their migration. Other worthwhile places to enjoy fishing include Andrew's Mill Pond/Wright's Creek and Scales Pond. The following resource offers useful angling information on this provincial government website: https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/information/environment-energy-and-climate-action/angling-resources-and-information-centre. Also, reaching out to one of the PEI fishing Facebook groups may provide some leads to a favorite fishing place.
North Rustico is a popular location for saltwater fishing in the tidal waters of P.E.I. Mackerel, striped bass and, possibly, flounder can be fished off the wharf there or at the beaches outside the National Park. Also, striped bass can be found in the waters of the Island's south shore. It is important to check with local wharf authorities to seek permission first. Make sure to park in the designated area. Also, these fish species are regulated by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. For rules and regulations, including licenses and catch limits, information may be found under the recreational fishing tab on their web page.
If you are interested in authentic fishing experiences, there are a number of deep sea fishing opportunities offered across the Island including many along the north shore. A visit to PEI would not be complete without a visit to North Lake Harbor, the tuna capital of the world. The Tourism PEI website has complete information on authentic experiences under the trip ideas tab.
Happy Fishing!
