We will be visiting P.E.I. in early September. Would it be possible to go on a whale/seal-watching tour at that time, and where and with whom would be the best tour opportunities?

Hello Alison,

Thank you for your question to Ask an Islander. We are excited to hear that you will be visiting our province in September, it is a beautiful time to come!

PEI is home to the Minke whale, the Pilot whale, the Right whale, and the Atlantic white-sided dolphin. Whales tend to migrate with fish stock in the early spring and then again in the early fall. I would recommend going on a deep-sea fishing adventure. This way, you get to experience and learn about all things seafood while keeping your catch, and maybe, although rare, you get the chance to spot a whale!

Explore More Watersports also puts on Seal Watching Tours that depart from the Seaport Marina in downtown Charlottetown.

We hope you spot a few fish and maybe even a whale or seal!

Take care,

Taylor
