What about swimming in the sea in regards to sharks
Hello Shawn,
Thank you for your wonderful question to Ask an Islander.
With Prince Edward Island history with the great white sharks, one would wonder whether or not to take a swim, but I can assure you, the likelihood of you encountering one on a swim is extremely low.
Over 30 years ago, one of the longest measured great white's was captured off of the western shores. It measured 6.1 metres long. At the time, it was the second largest shark recorded in the world.
As the sharks tend to go where the fish are and the fish tend to swim out from the beaches, we do not usually have sightings from the shore. If you decide to go on a deep-sea fishing experience, there is a much bigger opportunity to see some from the boat.
So, happy and safe swimming!
