What is cell phone coverage like across the Island? I’m planning to do a cycling trip there in 2026, and I’ll need to stay in touch with my wife who will drive our car to meeting points. We both have Bell cell phone plans if that matters. Thank you

Good morning Dave;

Thank you for reaching out about cell phone coverage while cycling on the Island.  Overall, coverage is good. In some areas, calls will be dropped, but one does not have to travel far to come into service again. If you are cycling the Confederation Trail, cell coverage is available at most road crossings and there are many, so you're not cycling for a long time without coverage.

Coverage in the West may be a bit more sporadic. I called Bell and the response was that "the Island is well served."  When I cycled the trail from tip to tip, I've never had a problem with coverage.  If you are road cycling in the southeast, the Murray River area can be a bit more of a challenge sometimes.

Would you like a new Confederation Trail map and the 2025 visitor’s guide to help plan your trip? If so, please contact me at the email below. Also, stay in touch by signing up for the Tourism PEI newsletter, which includes details on upcoming festivals and events and recipes too!

Please contact me if you have any other questions.

Cheerio!
