We have reserved a campsite in Cavendish National Park. We will be there for the July 1st weekend. What would you suggest as an itinerary for the best PEI experience for July 1st?

Hello Rick!

There are always lots of Canada Day activities in communities across Prince Edward Island!   Because you’ve indicated you will be in the Cavendish area on Canada Day, I’m going to suggest some activities in close by surrounding areas
We usually start our Canada Day off with breakfast at the Prince Edward Island Preserve Company in New Glasgow.  They serve one of the best breakfasts on the Island with an unbeatable view of the River Clyde.
North Rustico is a very short drive from Cavendish and, while this fishing village is interesting to visit at any time, they pull out all the stops for Canada Day.  Here’s the Facebook page that lists this year’s events that include a street parade, music, a parade of lots of fishing boats decorated in red and white, and fireworks:  .
If you are interested in dining in one of the North Rustico restaurants on Canada Day, I recommend you make reservations now as a lot of people converge on North Rustico for the entire day on July 1st.  A couple of dining suggestions – 1) Fisherman’s Wharf is a popular stop for a PEI lobster supper and many Islanders make lobster a feature of their Canada Day celebrations.  The Pearl Eatery is just up the road from North Rustico and is an eclectic eating establishment.
Whatever you choose to do on July 1st, I know you will enjoy your Canada Day weekend in Prince Edward Island!
