Are there any cool shipwrecks, especially beached boats on the island?

Good afternoon from Prince Edward Island;

Thank you for reaching out to Ask an Islander about shipwrecks. There are many historic tales of shipwrecks off the coast of the Island. The most famous shipwreck was the sinking of the Marco Polo in 1883. The late Tommy Gallant (1922-2012), a fisherman of Stanley Bridge, found the wreck of the Marco Polo in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, just near Cavendish, in the 1980s. Many of his family members still live in the area and could share his story I'm sure.

Today, visible remains are scare. Remnants of shipwrecks, like one on display at the PEI National Park in January this year, appear and disappear with the tides, which adds to their mystique. You may wish to read an article about a shipwreck at Basin Head Beach on the northeastern tip. Another interesting source if you are interested in the history of PEI shipwrecks is pioneer cemeteries. I'm quite familiar with the Yankee Hill cemetery in French River and there are many others.

I have a call into Jason MacNeil of the PEI Museum & Heritage Foundation (mentioned in the linked CBC article above) to determine if he knows of any visible wrecks. I'll send you a note by email if he has recommendations.

I trust this is helpful; perhaps, not exactly what you hoped to hear.

Have a great weekend.
