What is the best beach? Do you have a recommendation for deep sea fishing? Any recommendations for a place to stay overnight?

Good morning from Prince Edward Island,

Thank you for your inquiry to Ask an Islander.

It's difficult to answer your question about the best beach given we are an Island province with endless beaches. Personally, my summer bucket list always includes a visit to Basin Head Provincial Park in our Points East Coastal Drive region. The white sand is beautiful and the channel and beach is supervised so great for swimming.

Another favourite spot for beach walking, swimming and building sand castles is North Rustico Beach in the Prince Edward Island National Park in our Green Gables Shore region. Nearby, you'll find several deep-sea fishing operators; just look for the colourful fishing shacks. The Bearded Skipper, Aiden's and Off the Hook are three options in the village with Joey's located just up the road. Typically, sailing times are 8:30 am, 1:00 & 5:00 pm (confirm with operator) and prices range from $40 to $65 per adult.

You can search places to stay by region of interest, preference for type of accommodation and dates of your vacation at tourismpei.com/where-to-stay. Please ensure that you book reservations well in advance of your planned date of arrival as the Island is a popular destination this season.

I invite you to download or order our 2022 visitor’s guide. You can always stay in touch by signing up for the Tourism PEI newsletter which includes details on upcoming festivals and events and recipes too!

Have a wonderful summer! We hope to greet you soon.

Verna Lynne
