Best place for FALL SCENERIES…fall colors
Dear Randy,
Thank you for your question to Ask An Islander. I absolutely love to experience fall in PEI, so I am delighted to answer your question.
I traveled the eastern end of the Island last weekend, as the colours were just starting to come out. The drive on 48 Road was wonderful. The reds were deep, hints of oranges and golden colour popping out against the deep green pines. It truly was amazing to see. I stopped along O'Keefe Lake to watch the dragonflies dance on the water. I took route 216 to the Dromore Woodland Trails. The South Loop was just starting to change colour, so I expect as a few days have passed, it is well on the way to looking like fall. I absolutely recommend continuing on to Mooney's Pond. The trail around Mooney's pond was amazing and we got some wonderful pictures. Watch out, there was a squirrel who absolutely enjoyed getting his picture taken, so make sure to watch for him!
From Charlottetown, where the Scarecrow Festival is in full swing, to Borden, I could spend a good part of the day in the Bonshaw Hills. I would even recommend getting a picnic and watching the hikers doing the trails. If you are lucky, there may be a fisherman casting in the river. A few days ago, early in the morning, there was a light mist on the river and the fisherman was there casting, with the deep red and orange foliage. The geese and hawks are an added bonus to the colours.
Heading towards Wellington, Tyne Valley and even the lovely drive to Tignish is full of colour. Grab some take out from one of the many amazing restaurants and have a picnic.
As the leaves fall, the trees will still have plenty of colour! Maybe you would just rather find 10 things to do in the fall. Either way, enjoy the colours and the outdoors!
