How long does it take to visit Anne of Green Gables site? Is a couple of hours enough time?

Answer by:

Hello Sue,

Thank you for your question to Ask An Islander.

When I go to Anne of Green Gables site, I spend a healthy couple of hours. I love the spirit of this place.

I enjoy strolling the Haunted Wood Trail. The trail is 1.1 km and takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. There are interpretive signs along the way. The trail is hard packed and gravel along the way. Highlights will include wooden bridges, steps and a steep slope. There are benches along the way to stop and enjoy the views.

Balsam Hollow Trail is a 1 km trail starting at Lover's Lane. Several wooden bridges bring you back and forth along the stream. This trail enters the woods just past the house, watch for the sign for Lover's Lane. This is also a 30 minute walk.

Walking the two trails will take an hour.

Exploring the home and the buildings can take some time. Reliving the moments in the book, it is magical how suddenly you are taken to certain times in the book.

There is a lovely information centre and gift shop, which too will be fun to visit.

Enjoy your Anne adventure.
