I am considering a 6 day trip to PEI the last week of October. What is the weather like at that time? Timing for fall colours? We want to tour the Island. Any suggestions?

October is the most beautiful month on Prince Edward Island.  The Island's famous fall colours typically reach their peak around mid-October, although with a little luck you'll still find vibrant reds, oranges, and golds later in the month. Average daytime temperatures are around 12°C, making it an ideal season for sightseeing, hiking, cycling, and exploring the coast.

While some seasonal attractions and businesses begin to close after Canadian Thanksgiving in mid-October, there are still plenty of things to see and do. In fact, this is a wonderful time to experience PEI the way many Islanders do; at a slower pace and without the summer crowds.

One of the best ways to enjoy the season is by exploring PEI's scenic coastal drives. Each route offers stunning ocean views, charming communities, rolling farmland, and beautiful fall landscapes. You may also want to venture down some of the Island's iconic red dirt roads, which are especially picturesque during autumn. Take time to visit some of PEI's most charming villages, including Georgetown, Victoria-by-the-Sea, and North Rustico. These communities offer beautiful waterfront views, unique shops, local history and plenty of opportunities for photography.

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking or cycling on the Confederation Trail, a province-wide network of former railway beds that passes through forests, fields and rural communities. October is also an excellent time for beach walks. The beaches are often quiet, and the crisp fall air makes for a refreshing stroll along the shoreline. Many visitors enjoy searching for sea glass, a popular pastime on Prince Edward Island. Beaches across the Island can reveal colourful treasures shaped by years of exposure to the sea.

PEI's lighthouses are another must-see attraction during the fall. Scattered along the coastline, they offer spectacular photo opportunities and a glimpse into the Island's rich maritime heritage.

• On Saturday, visit the Charlottetown Farmers’ Market for a variety of local goods.
• Tour our small breweries, cideries and wineries for locally produced drinks and welcoming tasting experiences.

For sightseeing, guided tours can be a great way to discover the Island's history, culture, and landscapes. Visitors interested in the world of Anne of Green Gables will be pleased to know that Green Gables Heritage Place remains open through October, allowing guests to explore one of PEI's most iconic attractions.

Live music continues throughout the fall, particularly in Charlottetown. Traditional music performances, ceilidhs, and local events provide an authentic Island experience and a chance to experience PEI's vibrant culture.
