Hello. Is it easy to travel without a car? It's for an elderly person who does not drive and will be travelling from Montreal by train. Thank you!

Good afternoon from Prince Edward Island;
Thank you for your inquiry to Ask an Islander about travelling around Prince Edward Island without a car.
Visit Getting Around for a list of transportation options. When travelling by train, s/he will transfer to Maritime Bus in Moncton to come to Prince Edward Island. The terminal in Charlottetown is located at 7 Mt.Edward Road. At this point, s/he may want to call for a taxi to get to the accommodation of choice with bags. Taxis are readily available in the capital city. A new ride-sharing service is also available via Kari - PEI's version of Uber. Booking in advance is recommended.
Once settled, s/he has the option of city and rural transit via T3 Transit to explore Charlottetown and to connect to rural destinations. The cost for a monthly pass for seniors is $10 or s/he may choose to pay $2 per ride. A monthly pass can be used for all T3 routes.
A great alternative that takes the guess work out of planning is to book a tour. Many operators are listed on our site with a few others outlined in this Tripadvisor.ca post.
Downtown Charlettotown is a very walkable city. When cruise ships are in port, visitors love to wander the streets on foot exploring the many shops and restaurants, historic buildings and sites as well as the beautiful gardens.
All the best with your vacation planning. Do not hesitate to contact us again if you have any other questions.
Regards,
Verna Lynne
