Is it possible to see whales while in PEI? We will be there the first week of September, 2025.

Hello Carol,

Thank you for your question to Ask an Islander. We are excited to hear that you will be visiting our province in September. It is a beautiful time to come!

PEI is home to the Minke whale, Pilot whale, Right whale, and the Atlantic white-sided dolphin. Whales tend to migrate with fish stock in the early spring and then again in the early fall.

For a chance to see some of these creatures, I suggest the PEI Whales and Seals tour with Captain Jeff McNeill out of North Lake Harbour. There is no guarantee that you will see a whale, but I can guarantee that Captain Jeff will try his best to find some for you.

Wicked Sea Adventures, also out of North Lake Harbour offers a 2.5-hour excursion, described as one tour, five adventures! Whale watching, deep-sea fishing, seal watching, lobster fishing demonstration, and porpoise watching.

In downtown Charlottetown, Explore More Watersports offer seal watching tours that depart from the Seaport Marina.

We hope you spot a few fish and maybe even a whale or seal!

Take care,

Taylor
