Is it easiest to rent a car when visiting PEI? Or can you make do with taxis, bus and Kari? We plan to walk when in Charlottetown but want to do some sightseeing around the island that may be hard without a car.
Hello Arden,
Transportation on a vacation can be the hardest part of the trip. The easiest way to decide what sort of transportation you require, is deciding how long you will be staying and what are some must see and do events.
If you are looking to go to the beach for the day, you will find the bus system doesn't travel to all the beaches, but there is a Charlottetown to Cavendish bus express. Depending on the times and the drop off, this may work for you. Taxis and Kari are also great with pre-arranged pick up and drop off. If you decide you want to leave earlier then you planned, you may have to wait for the driver to arrive.
Booking a van service, like Bill's Van service, they can take you around the Island for a tour. The tour can be customized to what you want to see. That way, you can stop and go as you please and get some Island history and points of interest from the driver. So, if you are spending most of your time in Charlottetown walking around, a day tour with a van service could be a wonderful idea. Also, there are many tours available from Charlottetown.
If you plan on renting a vehicle, I recommend booking one as soon as possible. Vehicle rentals can book up quickly. You may also want to look at Turo for a car rental.
I hope this helps with your vacation planning,
Erin Davis
