Tourism PEI

My husband and I are planning a trip to the island in late June, our question is about golf. Which golf courses are a must play, how far in advance should we book tee times and are there any stay play packages offered?

Hello Kelly & Roger,

Thank you for your question to Ask an Islander.

I love talking golf! Hard to believe it, but this is a tough question! PEI is blessed with many excellent golf courses and picking the best must play courses is a personal choice.

The Links at Crowbush Cove is generally regarded as PEI’s best course. It is also regarded as the toughest. Named Canada’s best new course in 1994, it continues to rank amongst the top courses in Canada. The course has 5 sets of tees and can play anywhere from 6,925 yards to 5,010. It is important to choose the right set of tee blocks. There is usually a “gentle Island breeze” that is not always that gentle when you play into it. The greens are small, undulating, and well-protected by mounds and bunkers. The ocean gives the course a wow factor and is very scenic. As a golfer, you cannot come golfing on Prince Edward Island and not come here for a round!

Dundarave and Brudenell River Golf Courses get a mention also. Built in 1999, it is a big expansive course. All the holes are separate entities, you cannot see any hole other than the one you are playing. The fairways are generous in width and the greens are large, fast, and have subtle rolls and undulations. There is also the breeze off the river. You can be having an amazing game and suddenly a breeze off that river says, "Haha, let's challenge you some."

Green Gables Golf Course is one of my favourites, built in 1939 and designed by Stanley Thompson it is one of Canada’s iconic courses. There is just something about the feel of the tee box. Looking around, it is just one of those courses which speaks to you.

Enjoy!
