Tourism PEI

Hello,We are two active seniors from New York City. We are interested in planning a 3-4 days visit to PEI. WE will have a car. Will appreciate ideas for itineraries and nice drives, not too ambitious hikes and visits. Many thanks

Hi Roni,

Prince Edward Island has three beautiful Coastal Drives.

North Cape Coastal Drive is 350 km, about a five-hour drive, without stopping. You will want to stop, the tall red dramatic cliffs are photo worthy! Lighthouses, harbours, the windmill farms and charming small communities. Time the drive so you can stop at the Stompin' Tom Centre and spend an hour listening to the tunes.

Central Coastal Drive is 253 km, a solid four-hour drive. This is a great drive featuring the Green Gables Shore and Red Sand Shore. Visit the artisan village of Victoria by the Sea. There are several wonderful artisans, the restaurants are amazing and a great spot to sample one or two lobster rolls. Do not forget to visit the Island Chocolate shop! You will feel like you stepped back into the 1800s! Then travel to the Prince Edward Island Preserve Co. and walk the grounds, the shop is amazing for wandering through and pick out some tea, jams and other delights to bring home.  The restaurant is famous for their raspberry pie, although I like to dine there for the bacon potato pie! Walk the boardwalk in North Rustico and stop into Pedro's for an amazing meal, or try some delicious seafood at the Blue Mussel Cafe or Fisherman's Wharf Lobster Supper.

Points East Coastal Drive is 475 km and we tend to advise visitors, this is a seven to eight-hour drive, so consider perhaps doing it two days. Boasting over 50 beaches, this is a sea glass haven for those who love beach combing. Lovely small harbour communities, farms, unique nooks and crannies and even a cow or two! Toby's Farm Market in Fortune is a great place to pick up whatever is in season at the time. Make sure to check out The Fiddling Fisherman Lookout as well as The Red Claw Bistro, both in Souris. PEI National Park-Greenwich is a must see in my opinion. A floating boardwalk over protected marshland is truly breathtaking.

And last but certainly not least is our capital city, Charlottetown. Although a very small city, its quaint, charming and friendly feeling is what everyone loves. Make sure to check the boardwalk along the waterfront, Founders Food Hall & Market, the Story of Confederation at the Confederation Centre of the Arts, and Beaconsfield Historic House.

Oh my goodness, I could go on and on about this beautiful place I call home. I hope these suggestion help you with your planning and if you have any more questions, please reach out to us again or call us toll-free at 1-800-463-4734.

Enjoy your visit to Prince Edward Island!

Asked: I will be visiting Souris in early July 2024. I would love to take in a traditional lobster boil ( if that’s the correct wording , with the potatoes and corn and sea food ). Is there a local area known for offering this?
