Hi! Would someone be able to tell me where to harvest dulse on the island? I've seen websites claiming it's on the island, but I am not yet able to pinpoint exactly where. Thanks!

Hello Veronica,

Dulse is more popularly known as Irish Moss on the Island. The Island has a long and proud history of farming the Irish moss from the waters, especially along the North Cape shore. It can be collected on many beaches, along the north shore side of the Island.

You may remember seeing pictures of harvesters, riding their horses out raking the Irish moss, this was mainly done around the Tignish area. Tignish still hosts the Irish Moss Festival in honour of their history.

Enjoy a walk on the beach after a good wind storm and you will likely find lots washed ashore.

Have a great week,

Erin Davis
