We are driving to the North Cape, where ca we dine on fresh hot lobster?

Thank you for reaching out to Ask an Islander. I'm glad to hear you’re making the trek from Ontario to visit good ol’ PEI! We hope the weather is perfect while you’re here.

A quick scan of the restaurant listings in the North Cape Coastal Drive region shows that Lighthouse Willy’s in West Point offers lobster in the shell. Many restaurants, including those along the North Cape Coastal Drive, offer menu items featuring lobster – in particular lobster rolls – but very few offer fresh lobster in the shell. In Summerside, you can order hot lobster to go at JMK Fish Mart.

If you’re willing to travel a half hour east of Summerside, you can find what I consider to be the very best lobster-in-the-shell buffet on Prince Edward Island (with ALL the trimmings in a 60-foot salad bar, with all-you-can-eat mussels and seafood chowder), Fisherman’s Wharf Lobster Suppers, located in North Rustico. And, just a few minutes from there, is New Glasgow Lobster Suppers. It is worth the drive. At both those locations, you have a choice of hot or cold lobster. Please note that North Rustico is about two hours from North Cape. Anywhere on PEI is reachable within a few hours, actually.

You’ll also find scallops, mussels and oysters, served in various ways, at a majority of Island restaurants.
