What a good route for RVers..and best clam digging time?
Hello Susan,
Thank you for reaching out to Ask an Islander! Any or all of the Coastal Drive routes are good for RVers. They will take you through little fishing villages, charming small towns, sprawling farming communities, and thriving urban centers. There are campgrounds in every region of the island. We have Provincial campgrounds, National Park campgrounds, and beautiful private campgrounds so there are lots to choose from.
Clam digging is best on the south (Northumberland Strait) side of the island and at low tide. Here is a great tide chart! Some of the more popular areas are Maximeville, Pinette, Tea Hill and Victoria by the Sea.
Always a good idea to have a look at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans webpage 'What do I need to know before harvesting shellfish' to find out about the rules and regulations, size limits, catch limits and closures!
Have fun!
Valerie
