Hello John,

Thank you for your question to Ask an Islander.

Prince Edward Island has over 60 lighthouses to see however there are only 8 of those that you are able to visit and actually go inside.

A few of the most unique lighthouses include West Point Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse, celebrates it's 150th anniversary in 2025; Point Prim Lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse; Panmure Island Lighthouse, first wooden lighthouse to be built; Seacow Head Lighthouse located between Borden-Carleton and Summerside has recently been renovated; Cape Bear Lighthouse, with a Marconi exhibit, was the first in Canada to receive a distress call from the Titantic in 1912; and  Wood Islands Lighthouse offers a spectacular panoramic view of the Northumberland Strait.

For further information on lighthouses, please visit the Tourism PEI website or the PEI Lighthouse Society website.

We are looking forward to your Island visit as you explore lighthouses.

Regards,

Kevin Barbour
