When is the best weather to take a trip

Answer by:

Hello Peg,

Thank you for your question to Ask an Islander.

The great thing about Prince Edward Island, there is always weather! My grandfather use to say, "If you do not like the weather, wait 15 minutes and it will change!" This summer we have been blessed with a lot of sun, light breeze, wonderful water temperature and when it rains, it pours and doesn't last very long!

If you are coming to walk the Island Walk or bike the Confederation Trail, many love to come early spring or in the fall. The cooler temperatures are much better for those walking and biking.

If you are looking for fresh seafood, visitors to the island come during spring lobster season, early May. Then we have an endless supply of lobster, oysters, mussels, clams and so much more! In early May, there can be cooler temperatures, a bit of rain, but great temperatures for walking the beaches.

If you are coming as a fan of Anne of Green Gables, you can visit all things Anne. This year the Musical Anne of Green Gables is playing. It now plays every second year. There is also the Anne & Gilbert Musical, which plays every year. The weather in the summer can be warm to hot, beautiful blue skies and the occasional rainy day. Then again, we cannot control the weather and it could be a couple days of clouds.

Maybe you would like to come visit Prince Edward Island in the fall or the winter? We have wonderful restaurants, entertainment and so much more. You may have everything from sun, to clouds and snow!

If you waited for the weather to be perfect, you might not get here! I promise, regardless the weather, it is always a good time to visit.

Happy vacation planning,

Erin Davis
