Where can a family get a lobster supper that will allow us to bring our small dog? Outside near the water or beach would be great. We are staying in Cavendish for 4 days in July. Also, a vegeterian option will be required for some.

Good morning from Prince Edward Island,

Thank you for reaching out to Ask an Islander. Your question poses a number of scenarios that I will try my best to address.

A great option for dining when travelling with your pet in Cavendish is Avonlea Village with eight eateries and several shops. The "Local Lobster Roll" from Dave's Lobster is recommended. You'll find vegetarian options at many of the restaurants.

For lobster dinner, here are two options for restaurants that have patios overlooking the water. Please call in advance to determine if your dog is welcome:

  • Carr's Oyster Bar in Stanley Bridge (offers the option to add lobster in the shell to any meal)
  • Sou'West in New London (offers 1 lb. fresh PEI lobster, warm butter, potato salad, and your choice of side).

For a take-out option, Pier 15, adjacent to Fisherman's Wharf Lobster Suppers, in North Rustico offers traditional lobster dinner. On a wam and sunny day, plan for a picnic at a table in the adjacent park or in the gazebo on the boardwalk.

If you decide to travel to Charlottetown, there are more options to dine on dog-friendly patios, thanks to the Paws on Patios program. Peake's Quay offers a great water view of the Charlottetown Harbour and Water Prince Corner Shop offers patio dining on sunny days with a view of the hustle and bustle of visitors to and from Founder's Hall and the waterfront. This small spot is world-famous and can be very busy. Plan accordingly!

The caveat for dining with a dog anywhere is that patio availability is dependent on weather, capacity, and restaurants' discretion. Staff have the right to limit the number of dogs, or ask a customer to remove the pet if it is misbehaving.

If you haven't done so already, download our 2023 visitor’s guide or pick up a hard copy when you arrive at the airport or any Visitor Information Centre. You can always stay in touch by signing up for the Tourism PEI newsletter which includes details on upcoming festivals and events and recipes too!

Have a fabulous vacation! Thank you for choosing Prince Edward Island.
