Where is the best and easiest place to access lobster dinner close to Charlottetown? Are there still church lobster suppers and if so how do you find out?
Hi Peter,
Thank you for reaching out to Ask an Islander. A Prince Edward Island lobster supper is a must if you plan to richly experience Canada's Food Island. That being said, church lobster suppers are now of a bygone time. Not to worry though, we have some great lobster supper options.
Lobster on the Wharf is located at Mackinnon's Wharf in downtown Charlottetown. This waterfront gem delivers a classic lobster supper with a harbourview, literally over the water. You’ll enjoy fresh lobster with all the fixings with the option to build a mixed seafood plate. Don’t miss the live lobster pound right on site! They also pack lobster for flights/travel if you want to take lobster home with you.
Water Prince Corner Shop & Lobster Pound is a beloved staple at the corner of Water and Prince Streets in Charlottetown. This iconic seafood joint has been delighting locals and visitors for over 30 years. It is well known for bib-clad lobster dinners, fresh seafood and a cozy, retro atmosphere filled with vintage decor. This restaurant is ideal for enjoying your meal on the patio or grabbing dinner to-go.
If you're willing to venture about 30 minutes out of the capital, New Glasgow Lobster Suppers is iconic! Open since 1958, New Glasgow Lobster Suppers is the quintessential PEI lobster supper experience. Many of us locals mark the opening of lobster season and Mother's Day with a lobster supper at New Glasgow Lobster Suppers. If you order a lobster supper, your meal will also include robust portions of steamed mussels, rolls, and salad. Not to be outdone by the lobster supper, the mile-high lemon meringue is the stuff of legends to us Island folks. The best part? The dessert is included in the price of the lobster supper!
Have a great visit on our gentle Island!
