Where to get the freshest clams

Answer by:

Hello Robert,

Thank you for your question to Ask an Islander.

Some of the freshest clams on the Island are the ones you dig yourself! Find a lovely red sand shore as the tide is going out and enjoy a good day of digging! Just remember to purge the clams will so you can enjoy them without the gritty sand!

If digging isn't in the time frame, I do love traveling the Island for some of the best clam delights on the go! In North Rustico, they know how to make an amazing whole deep fried clam dinner at Route 6 Fish and Chips. This is a must visit for the locals! Also, Pier 15 have an amazing clam chowder, but get the lobster grilled Cheese too!

Island Chef at the Pier in Stanley Bridge makes a lovely clam chowder.

Richard's at Victoria by the Sea have steamed clams on the menu. Yesterday, I was absolutely thrilled to have some of these wonderfully delicious delights, while I was out enjoying the sunshine!

Heading east visit Clam Diggers in Cardigan or Stella's food truck in Brudenell.

Thanks Robert, now I want clams!!!

Enjoy a feed or two,

Erin Davis
