Hi Rina,
Greetings from Prince Edward Island!
Thank you for reaching out on Ask An Islander. I’m happy to know you’re headed our way.
A fun way to explore the Island by doing a self-guided lighthouse tour. Some lighthouses are open to the public, while others are not – you can get more information about this from The PEI Lighthouse Society.
Here are some of our favourites:
· The East Point Lighthouse is located at the eastern tip of the Island, and is open to the public. While you’re in the area, plan to visit Basin Head Provincial Park, which is consistently rated as PEI’s best beach by locals and visitors alike.
· The Point Prim Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in PEI; it’s the only round brick lighthouse on the Island, and one of three in Canada. While you’re there, be to grab a bite to eat at the Point Prim Chowder House & Beach Bar next door.
· The West Point Lighthouse offers one of the most unique lighthouse experiences on the Island, because you can actually sleep there – in the tower itself, or in the connected inn (reservations are strongly recommended).
· Covehead Lighthouse is located inside the PEI National Park. While you’re there, enjoy the gorgeous white sand beach, and eat at Richard’s Seafood (located at the wharf; this is an exceptionally popular restaurant with visitors and locals alike, so give yourselves lots of time for your meal).
I invite you to download or order our 2024 visitor’s guide. You can always stay in touch by signing up for the Tourism PEI newsletter which includes details on upcoming festivals and events and recipes too!
I hope this information is helpful. If you have more questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
