I love a good sandy beach just like most everyone, but I would love to photograph rocky beaches. I would be interested in suggestions for rocky beaches, please.

Hello Alayne,

Thank you for your question to Ask an Islander.

Prince Edward Island has almost 1100 km of shoreline featuring beautiful beaches and scenic red sandstone cliffs. There will be many opportunities to photograph rocky beaches.

You will see a natural rocky beach and rugged coastline in North Cape with the windmills as a background. As well, the high red cliffs along the North Cape Coastal Drive promises to be a very picturesque experience!  Similar spectacular views are found along the coasts of Points East Coastal Drive leading to East Point.

The PEI National Park offers the splendor of sandy beaches and red cliffs. Along the north shore, the rocky beaches of Cape Tyron, Darnley and Sea View are always appealing. A few other noteworthy rocky beaches and cliffs include Cape Bear, Cap Egmont, Panmure Island, and Rocky Point to name a few.

Popular picture taking spots such as Canoe Cove, Argyle Shore, and Victoria By-the-Sea are located on the south side of the Island. Another must stop is Chelton Beach Provincial Park where you will have stunning sights of the majestic shoreline and incredible views of the Seacow Head Lighthouse and the Confederation Bridge.

Prince Edward Island is a photographers' paradise. We look forward to your visit to explore sandy and rocky beaches to discover the magnificent beauty of PEI.

Regards,

Kevin Barbour
