I'll stay in the North Rustico area for the weekend. What places do you recommend to visit?

Good afternoon Sus;

Thank you for reaching out to Ask an Islander. I love Rustico and am happy to recommend some great places to visit and events to consider.

I am assuming that you will be in the area this weekend. This itinerary includes many of the highlights of North Rustico. I would also include a stop at Route 6 Fish 'N Chips and Crickers Creamery for a treat (read this blog post to learn more about the owner). I also enjoy visiting the little shops along here next to the park. Walk the boardwalk from the fishing harbour and along the shoulder of the road to Outside Expeditions at the other end. There is also a path to the beach of the PEI National Park beach at the end of the boardwalk.

Same Time, Next Year and Misery are on stage at the Watermark Theatre. I haven't seen a performance there yet this summer but always enjoy their festival line-up at this small theatre.

For an Authentic PEI Experience, connect with the PEI Spoon Guy for a spooning lesson. Always a great time! (Below I am pictured with two friends outside of the Peters' fishing shack).

In the neighbouring community of South Rustico, visit the Karen Gallant Art Gallery, upstairs at Gallant's Clover Farm. Karen is a sister to award-winning Canadian songwriter and musician Lennie Gallant. You may also wish to visit the Farmer's Bank and Doucet House for a history lesson in Acadian history of the area. There is also a ceildh at the Lion's Club no Sunday night.

In New Glasgow, stop at Stoked Bakehouse for a wood-fired pizza and craft brew or have breakfast at the PEI Preserve Co followed by a garden tour and visit to the Butterfly House. There will be an event there on Saturday at noon called Sweet Serenades - LM Montgomery Ice Cream Social this is on my personal agenda.

Check out our Festivals & Events calendar under Green Gables Shore to find out what else is happening while you are visiting. The options for this area are limitless. You may have to stay longer or return later this summer.

I invite you to download or order our 2024 visitor’s guide. You can always stay in touch by signing up for the Tourism PEI newsletter which includes details on upcoming festivals and events and recipes too!

Have a wonderful summer vacation!
