Hi Tanya,

Thank you for contacting Ask An Islander.

There is so much to see and do in The Stanley Bridge area, but I have tried to include some truly unique suggestions.

Green Gables Heritage Place is a wonderful property where you can walk in the footsteps of one of Canada's most celebrated authors: L.M. Montgomery. Once there you can immerse yourself in the landscape that inspired the setting of Anne of Green Gables. Part of L.M. Montgomery's Cavendish National Historic Site, Green Gables tells the story of both the author, L.M. Montgomery, and her most famous heroine, Anne Shirley. Currently the Canada Strong Pass offers free admission to this site.

Brackley Drive-In Theatre is an Island gem that offers a unique experience for the whole family. They guarantee a place "where families can afford to have fun." At dusk, enjoy two first-run movies in one of the most unique drive-in theatres in Canada. There's even a full-service canteen with hot dogs, cheeseburgers, fries, onion rings, fresh popcorn, mozza sticks, and so much more! The Brackley Drive-In allows you to enjoy the stars under the stars. It's more than a movie, it's a memory. The Drive-In is about a 30-minute drive from Stanley Bridge.

The Chaisson Trio Ceilidh at Stanley Bridge Hall with Special Guest fiddler, Troy MacGillivray is an authentic Island musical experience. The show takes place Wednesdays at 7:30 PM and it is a great way to enjoy rich traditional music with the whole family. Truly you will be left amazed by the immense talent our Island has to offer.

In nearby New Glasgow, there is Gardens of Hope & Butterfly House which is an incredible experience to walk through. It is a tranquil and relaxing property which includes a respite cottage and a tropical butterfly house. Also, located nearby is The Toy Factory where they make wooden toys the old-fashioned way: by hand, one-at-a-time in their own workshop. Simple, sturdy, and safe.

Canoe Cove Beach offers beautiful red sand and tidal pools once the tide goes out. This is an excellent place for children to play and enjoy the ocean with a calmer surf. Closer to Stanley Bridge are Brackley Beach and Cavendish Beach. While these Prince Edward Island National Park Beaches are busier, I would suggest arriving early in the morning for a smaller crowd.

Enjoy your vacation on our beautiful Island!

Have a great day,

Jonah
