We are 4 adults and a 2 year-old headed to PEI in mid-October for 5 nights. What would you recommend we do that time of year?
Hello Danielle,
Thank you for reaching out to Ask an Islander. I am happy to hear that you're coming to visit! October is a wonderful time to visit PEI. It's harvest season, things slow down a little, the fall colours are starting to peak and there is still plenty of nice weather for outdoor fun.
The city of Charlottetown hosts The Charlottetown Scarecrow Festival for the whole month of October. Celebrate fall with hundreds of scarecrows, festive events, haunted tours, stiltwalkers, and more. While in the capital city, join in on a Historic Great George Walking Tour. Explore one of Canada’s most historic streets and learn about Prince Edward Island’s role in shaping history. The streets are so pretty this time of year and the history is so very interesting!
Take a tour on North America's largest solar boat! Ride Solar offers morning, afternoon, and dinner cruises until the end of October. Cruise around the Charlottetown Harbour with stunning views of the Charlottetown waterfront, Victoria Park, West River, Skmaqn–Port-la-Joye–Fort Amherst National Historic Site, Government House, Beaconsfield Historic House, and more.
Take your little one to Island Hill Farm, also known as the cutest place on earth! Snuggle some bunnies, goats, and alpacas. Relax in the café, browse the shop with wares from local Island artisans and Island Hill Farm's own luxurious goat milk soap.
Our scenic heritage roads will be at their most stunning in October. Pick one or two and take a drive, some of these roads have sections where the foliage creates a tunnel effect with its canopy. These red dirt roads are also great for photos!
Last but not least, our beaches. It may be too chilly for swimming, but take some time to walk some of our gorgeous beaches. The Prince Edward Island National Park has some of the best white sand beaches and to experience a red sand beach head to Canoe Cove or Victoria by the Sea on the south side of the island. At low tide in Canoe Cove, you can let your little one run and play on the flats and dip their toes in the shallow tidal pools.
One more suggestion! Stop in and visit one of our Visitor Information Centres when you are here. They will have up-to-date information on events that will be happening while you're here.
I hope this helps you to plan your stay!
