We've been to Anne of Green Gables, flower pots, the beach and the wharf. Where else can we go, and stay? Interested in eating out, East Coast music, low low-impact activities? - somewhere quiet.
Hi Diane,
Thank you for contacting Ask An Islander. Here are some suggestions for dining and experiencing Prince Edward Island's amazing cuisine:
- Peake’s Quay Restaurant & Bar: Enjoy a meal on Charlottetown’s largest outdoor patio overlooking the historic Charlottetown waterfront. Also, plan your visit to coincide with Sounds of the Waterfront - Peake's Quay!
- Fisherman's Wharf Lobster Suppers & Pier 15 Restaurant: A unique PEI traditional lobster supper experience. Their 60-foot salad bar offers a variety of choices to keep everyone in your party happy! Don't forget to leave some room for dessert as they serve fresh and homemade strawberry shortcake!
- New Glasgow Lobster Suppers: The original PEI lobster suppers, serving since 1958. They offer up only the freshest of foods, from lobster to potatoes. This is a multigenerational family business that has perfected customer service. After your lobster dinner, enjoy their "mile high" lemon pie with a coffee or tea.
- Red Shores Charlottetown: Experience culinary delights at the Top of the Park or in Turf’s Lounge at this cultural landmark. Also, they offer live harness racing and an exciting casino. Furthermore, Old Home Week PEI’s Family Fun Fair starts on August 8. This is an incredible annual event that offers everything from livestock demonstrations to a midway! This is a great place to enjoy low-impact activities and authentic Island music with the Sounds of the Island.
Be sure to stroll along Victoria Row, located on Richmond Street between Queen and Great George Streets. The architecture along this cobblestone street dates back to the Victorian era, and is closed to vehicle traffic during the summer. Choose a patio for dining outdoors and enjoy live music performances with Always On Stage. This is truly an authentic PEI experience.
Another option for experiencing our amazing Island music is our Ceilidhs and Kitchen Parties! Enjoy the magic of music and storytelling with exceptional local entertainers. A light lunch is often served.
For more low-impact activities, see below:
- Cavendish Grove Trail is the former site of Rainbow Valley. There is still a circular spruce maze on site. Strolling along this beautiful natural space is the ultimate way to relax and recharge.
- For amusement parks and entertainment venues, visit Mariner’s Cove Miniature Golf, Wax World of the Stars or Ripley’s Believe It or Not.
- Grandpa's Antique Photo Studio is the place to go for fun photos to take home. Choose from antique photos in sepia, colour, black and white with quick-change costumes, hats and props. Dress as a cowboy in a saloon or a bank robber!
Lastly, my suggestion on where to stay is Charlottetown. From the capital city, you can experience the incredible history of the downtown core with many types of tours, as follows:
- Historic Great George Walking Tour explores one of Canada’s most historic streets and shares the story of Prince Edward Island’s role in shaping history. From the Island’s first inhabitants to Confederation and beyond, this tour is a wonderful entry point into Canadian history. They offer tours at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM daily.
- Emerald Isle Carriage Tours of historic Charlottetown are aboard a horse-drawn carriage. This is a truly unique way to see and learn about the city.
- Harbour Hopper Tours is Charlottetown’s only land-and-sea adventure. This 55-minute tour offers the perfect blend of history, stunning architecture and waterfront charm.
Have a great day!
