What are some dog friendly attractions?

Hi Lizette,

Thank you for contacting Ask An Islander.

Prince Edward Island is very much a dog friendly vacation spot. Here are some suggestions for dog friendly attractions:

Paws on Patios: Paws on Patios is a comprehensive guide to restaurants in the City of Charlottetown that allow dogs to accompany diners on patios. This way your furry friend can enjoy the fresh salt air while you dine. Furthermore, Bring Fido expands the search to all across PEI for restaurants that allow dogs.

Dog Parks - The best dog park on Prince Edward Island (and one of the largest in Canada) is Upton Farmlands in Charlottetown. This designated off-leash, waterfront park is twenty acres and partially fenced; the remainder of the property is designated on leash. You’ll also find smaller dog parks in most towns.

Shopping - In Charlottetown, look for the “Paws Downtown” signs in the windows of pet-friendly retailers and service providers who want to do their part to prevent pets from being left in hot cars in the summer. Some shops even have a water bowl, poo bags, and treats on hand - a dog has to eat and drink too. Visit the PEI Humane Society’s list of PEI Pet-Friendly Stores.

Beaches and Parks: Dogs are permitted in all beaches and Day Use parks on PEI as long as they remain on a leash. In fact, the only beaches that don't allow pets are the Prince Edward Island National Park. Otherwise, the whole family is more than welcome, including your canine companions!

If at any time you are not sure if you can take your dog with you to an attraction or establishment, please call ahead as Islanders are happy to help!

Have a great day,

Jonah
