What would you say is the food that PEI is known for? ie. Lobster, potatoes, local favourites

Answer by:

Hello Kayla,

Thank you for your question to Ask and Islander. Prince Edward Island is known as "Canada's Food Island" due in part because of our seafood and potatoes, but that's not all. Read on to learn much more.

Prince Edward Island lobster is amazing. For more then 150 years our fishers have been waking up early during two seasons of the year to bring catches to shore. Check out the Legendary Lobster Crawl.

North Lake is known as the Tuna Capital of the World.

Prince Edward Island mussels are shipped world-wide! We are also one of the primary suppliers across Canada! Enjoy a feed of mussels from one of our many restaurants, like Pier 15 at the Fisherman's Wharf Lobster Supper

Prince Edward Island oysters are some of the best in the world. They taste like our beautiful waters surrounding us!  Enjoy them raw or baked at many of our favourite patios, like Landmark Oyster House in Victoria-by-the-Sea.

Prince Edward Island is known for producing approximately 25 per cent of Canada's potatoes. Popular menu items include bacon potato pie at PEI Preserve Co. along with Fries with the Works - a local delicacy that was created on Prince Edward Island and can be found at many diners and dairy bars!

THere is nothing more fun then searching for the best Island fish & chips. Maybe even find your favourite lobster roll. How about testing a cup of chowder along the way!

Prince Edward Island is also known for our burgers with a month long Burger Love challenge every year. Many of those burgers stay on the menu for the season.

What are you waiting for? Bring your appetite to Canada's Food Island. You won't leave hungry!
