Where is the best lobster on the island?
Hello Louis,
Thank you for your question to Ask an Islander! We are thrilled to hear that you might be visiting our Island to take in some delicious PEI lobster. Our lobster is truly the best!
We have two lobster seasons, the first one runs from early May to the end of June. This season takes place on the north shore. The south shore season runs from about August 10th to October 10th. North shore residents usually prefer the spring catch, while south shore residents typically prefer the late summer lobster!
New Glasgow Lobster Suppers and Fisherman's Wharf Lobster Suppers both offer a traditional maritime lobster dinner experience, each with its own unique charm.
New Glasgow Lobster Suppers provides full table service and generous portions, including seconds on appetizers and desserts. They are especially famous for their mile-high lemon meringue pie, which is a must try!
Fisherman's Wharf Lobster Suppers, located in the quaint fishing village of North Rustico, is renowned for its impressive 60-foot salad bar, which features unlimited salad, mussels, and rolls.
I have eaten at both restaurants and can honestly say that enjoying a lobster dinner at either spot is one of my favourite activities on Prince Edward Island in summer. It’s truly an experience you must have at least once in your life. My best advice would be to arrive on an empty stomach!
If you would like to try a lobster roll, a few favourites of mine come from Richard's, Fin Folk Food, and The Seafood Shack.
I hope you get to enjoy lots of lobster while you are on the Island!
Take care,
Taylor
