We are considering a trip to PEI, but we don't know when to visit in 2026. We would be interested in ideas on what to see and do and it is just the 2 of us. We are older and we are not into the night life. We like fishing and trying new things.
Hello Teresa,
Thank you for reaching out to Ask An Islander. If you are thinking of travelling to PEI and looking for the best time of the year for fishing and other activities, we recommend July, August or September. The summer months are always full of festivals and events and the best fishing.
In August, you can fish striped bass, cod, mackerel, and tuna. There are various boat fishing charters across the province. Rustico Harbour has several boat charter opportunities for cod and mackerel. Aiden’s Deep Sea Fishing and Joey’s Deep Sea Fishing in Rustico offer charters for cod and mackerel all summer and into September. North Lake offers some of the best tuna fishing charters in North America. Bruce Brothers Fishing Charters and MacNeill’s Tuna and Deep Sea fishing are two great charters. There are a number of other charters as well. For Striped Bass fishing, we would recommend Richard’s Bait and Tackle in Alberton, PEI. They take out individual charters so the two of you could enjoy a day with the fishermen catching our favourite tasting fish.
The Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown offers lots of opportunities for excellent on stage entertainment. You should definitely take in a show if you have time while visiting the province. There are great shows as well at the Georgetown Playhouse and the Harbourfront Theatre in Summerside. One of our favourite small theatres is Harmony House in Hunter River. They also put on excellent shows.
There are many festivals and events throughout the summer that you can find online once you decide when you are visiting. If it is September, the PEI Shellfish Festival is a great event to attend.
The Confederation Trail is a wonderful trail system across the province for walking, running or biking. We enjoy walks with our dog on the trail.
Our beaches are amazing. You need to travel around to many of our beaches and visit the various lighthouses all across the province. The Greenwich National Park beach is one of our favourites.
If you like to golf, check out the Golf PEI website for all the amazing courses that are available in our province.
These are just a few of the many activities you might consider when visiting PEI next year. We hope you decide to make PEI your vacation destination next year. Planning early is always helpful as accommodations are very busy in the summer months. `
All the best,
Marney & Wade
