Where is the best place to eat seafood? And, where can you go claim digging?

Hey Sam!

Thanks for the questions to Ask an Islander. Right off the bat, Prince Edward Island is the best place to eat seafood so you're coming to the right place. Here are a few of my favourites for your consideration:

  • North Shore Canteen is probably my favourite restaurant on PEI. The menu is ever-changing and the chef always has at least a few seafood options on the menu.  There are some interesting options and all are cooked perfectly with great service. Highly recommend spending an evening there!
  • Richard’s in Covehead offers the best lobster roll on PEI in my opinion along with some great fish and chips and scallops too!
  • Roe's Tacos is next door and don’t let the name fool you as the menu offers more than tacos. In season, the halibut dish is incredible and the fish itself comes right from the wharf, just steps away. Lobster taco is also incredible.
  • Water Prince Corner Shop or Merchantman are my top picks for seafood in Charlottetown. If you need even more suggestions, Sea Rocket, Sims and Claddagh Oyster House all offer up some great seafood options. I like to grab one menu item from each of these spots and do a bit of a tour.

For clam digging, the best spots to go are typically on the south shore of the Island at the lowest tide possible. I like going to Victoria-by-the-Sea or Tea Hill ( you can park at 492 Keppoch Rd in Stratford as this is a municipal park). As long as you can walk out on the sand flats at low tide, there are lots of great locations. 100 clams is the limit and they have to be bigger than 2 inches! Typically there are signs posted for any restrictions but always a good idea to be familiar with regulations and limits.

Hope that helps!
