How many days would you stay in each location? Charlottetown and Cavendish? Is there anywhere else you would recommend we go visit? Thank you for any suggestions! Looking forward to our trip to PEI! 😊

Hi Vivienne,

Thank you for contacting Ask An Islander.

At a minimum, three or four days will provide you with time to visit some attractions tip to tip. For a more leisurely visit designed for relaxing at the beach or doing a lot of hiking along woodland and coastal trails, will require one week, maybe more.

I would recommend dedicating a full day to two days for experiencing our capital city, the City of Charlottetown. Several suggestions would be to visit the following:

Founder's Food Hall and Market: The best blend of urban and rural, bringing together PEI’s most savoury flavours all under one roof. Also, they regularly have live music throughout the summer.

The Confederation Centre of The Arts: At Confederation Centre of the Arts, the origins and evolution of Canada is celebrated through a rich variety of heritage and arts programming. The aim is to inspire Canadians to consider this country’s past, present, and future through performing arts, visual arts, and interactive learning experiences. This year they are offering guided historical walks, ghost tours, two main stage shows (Tell Tale Harbour and Million Dollar Quartet), and much more!

Always On Stage: Always on Stage presents live music on Victoria Row in downtown Charlottetown every afternoon and evening in summer! Victoria Row is a beautiful historic street that is closed down to everything but foot traffic for our lovely warm months. Here you can experience amazing cuisine, outdoor patio dining, and live music all in one of downtown Charlottetown's most welcoming spaces. This is truly a must visit!

Cavendish: Depending on if you want to experience the local waterparks, Cavendish can easily be visited in one full day. Some suggestions of places to visit are:

Green Gables Heritage Place: Walk in the footsteps of one of Canada's most celebrated authors and immerse yourself in the landscape that inspired the setting of Anne of Green Gables. Also, to explore all about L.M. Montgomery, Cavendish is the best place to be with as you can explore the Anne of Green Gables: All Things Anne intinerary!

Cavendish Beach at The Prince Edward Island National Park: Sought after by visitors for more than a century, Cavendish Beach is world-renowned for its beautiful dunes, signature views of rugged, red sandstone cliffs, and its connection to author L.M. Montgomery. This is truly a breathtaking place to visit.

Lastly, here are some suggestions for exploring other areas of PEI:

In the North Cape Coastal Drive region dedicating two days to exploration would be most fitting. O'Leary's Canadian Potato Museum & Antique Farm Machinery Museum is home to the world's largest potato and chocolate potato fudge. Skinners Pond is the home to the Stompin' Tom Centre Homestead & Schoolhouse, where there's daily live music and a full service restaurant.  West Point is the home to PEI's only black and white lighthouse, the West Point Lighthouse Inn and Museum, where this year they are celebrating their 150th anniversary!

Taking two more days you can explore Points East Coastal Drive. Montague offers an outdoor art gallery. Orwell Corner Historic Village  allows you to surround yourself with the flavour, mood and charm of this small village of the 1890's. Points East Coastal Drive has six lighthouses that have an incredible history to tell. Cape Bear Lighthouse is the first Canadian lighthouse to take the S.O.S. from the Titanic, Point Prim Lighthouse is the only round and cement lighthouse on the Island. Others to explore are: Wood Islands, Panmure Head, East Point, as well as Souris East Lighthouse which is the only one on the Island that allows you to to go on the viewing deck at the top.

Have a great day,

Jonah
