Where is the best region to rent a cottage on or close to the beach for 3 kids (ages 3,6,8) and 4 adults? Looking for a nice beach for the kids to play at. Thank you :)

Hello Lauren,

Thank you for your question to Ask an Islander.

Prince Edward Island has a coastline of just under 1100 kms with more than 450 choices for cottage rentals. The Points East Coastal Drive has 50 phenomenal beaches including the famous Singing Sands Beach at Basin Head Provincial Park and the always popular children destination of Kings Castle Provincial Park with a beach near Murray River. The south side of the Island tends to have warmer waters and the unique red sand beaches ideal for making sand castles.  Argyle Shore Provincial Park and Chelton Beach Provincial Park are in this area. The north shore is noted for rolling surf and pristine white beaches.  The PEI National Park is in this region as well as many attractions and amusements for children in the Cavendish area. Many provincial campgrounds and some of the provincial day use parks have beaches and children activities. Along the North Cape Coastal Drive, the beach at Cedar Dunes Provincial Park is worth going to with the iconic West Point Lighthouse as a backdrop. In Kildare, the beach at the Jacques Cartier Provincial Park is always popular where the French explorer discovered the Island in 1534.

I hope this information is helpful. The Tourism PEI website is an excellent resource providing details on where to stay and planning a vacation to Prince Edward Island.

Regards,

Kevin Barbour
