We are seniors with a dog. Vacation time is late April to early May. Is anything open during that time?

Thank you for your inquiry to Ask an Islander. In spring, there are a number of performances and events taking place at theatres and other community venues across the province. Search our Festivals and Events calendar for the planned dates of your stay and region(s) of interest. 

This year, the lobster fishery will open on April 26 which means that you could eat fresh lobster as early as the last weekend of April. Other attractions and operators also begin to gear up for the summer season ahead at this time.

• Lobster on the Wharf in Charlottetown will open May 1
• Live harness racing returns to Red Shores Racetrack at the Charlottetown Driving Park on May 1 
• Green Gables Heritage Place opens May 1 in Cavendish.
• Many golf courses open May 1
• Fisherman’s Wharf Lobster Suppers in North Rustico will open on Mother’s Day, May 8.

Of course, you can tour coastal drives through fishing villages, small towns and our cities, spot lighthouses and historic churches or hike our trails any time of the year.
