We are seniors with a dog. Vacation time is late April to early May. Is anything open during that time?

Hello from Prince Edward Island,

Thank you for your inquiry to Ask an Islander. In spring, there are a number of performances and events taking place at theatres and other community venues across the province. Search our Festivals and Events calendar for the planned dates of your stay and region(s) of interest.

This year, the lobster fishery will open on April 26 which means that you could eat fresh lobster as early as the last weekend of April. Other attractions and operators also begin to gear up for the summer season ahead at this time.

Of course, you can tour coastal drives through fishing villages, small towns and our cities, spot lighthouses and historic churches or hike our trails any time of the year.

Did you know that Prince Edward Island is known as Canada's Food Island? Here is a five-day culinary itinerary that you could easily use as a guide while eating your way across Prince Edward Island. The dates of operation for any linked business are noted on secondary pages. Only a few noted are limited to seasonal dates.

Should you be interested in taking part in one of our Authentic PEI Experiences, I have noted a few that operate in spring:

In case you are also looking for accommodations, I want to ensure that you are aware of our Stay & Savour packages which offer free Canada’s Food Island gift cards when you stay with our accommodation partners.

Finally, here is useful information about travelling with your pet

Our 2022 Visitor’s Guide will be available in April. In the meantime, stay in touch by signing up for the Tourism PEI newsletter which includes details on upcoming festivals and events and recipes too!

Have an amazing vacation.

Verna Lynne
