Where do the locals like to eat?
Hello Liza,
Thank you for your message to Ask an Islander.
As a foodie, I love this question! Islanders love to eat indoors, outdoors, in the park, at the beach and all places in between!
In Murray River, locals love going to the Home Plate for Caroline's fish and chips. If you love a little treat, see if she has any banoffee tarts! Staying east, the locals know some of the best seafood chowder can be found at Roma at Three Rivers. It is a Heritage Site, so keep an eye out for their kitchen hours and try their wood fired brick oven cooked bread. Locals drive to Cardigan for Clam Digger's. We cannot forget Red Claw Bistro in Souris and the Seafood Shack in Morell.
In the Charlottetown area, locals know that the fish and chips from Budley's at the airport are one of the go to spots. Yes, that's right, the airport restaurant is a local favourite. Also try the fish and chips at Churchill Arm's. Want a great burger? The Olde Dublin Pub has a peanut butter and jam burger. They have lots of other great items too.
Along the Green Gables Shore drive, there are lots of foodie spots the locals like to go enjoy. Locals literally line up at Route 6 Fish and Chips for their whole deep fried clams. In North Rustico, Pier 15 is located inside Fisherman's Wharf Lobster Supper. Go for the mussels in a lobster sauce, the lobster grilled cheese sandwich and order a couple other items you can share. It is delicious. Locals love the patio at Island Chef at the Pier. Their menu is fabulous, amazing lamb and seafood, but their bar menu is even more impressive. Also, Island Favourites is quietly becoming a go to spot for locals. They had an impressive chowder and lobster roll last year.
Heading to the western end of the Island, check out Backwood's Burgers, Our Family Traditions and the restaurant at North Cape.
Don't forget the Blue Goose for breakfast! Home of the Peter Pan burger. Then head to Victoria by the Sea for literally any of the restaurants.
Locals love their food trucks. We also love our patios. You might find several of us out sipping tea.
Enjoy where ever you visit and love the food!
